8 Relaxation Techniques That You Can Use Daily

8 Relaxation Techniques That You Can Use Daily
In our constantly moving environment, our bodies and minds are suffering from wear and tear. We call this stress. When we are facing family problems, money problems, relationship problems, problems at work, and any other trials and tribulations that life throws at us, stress comes at us from all sides.  We try to deal with everything that comes our way day to day. To live a healthy lifestyle you have to reduce your stress levels. Developing ways to deal with your stress makes you more resilient, more energetic, with you thinking patterns more effective.
We all have those days…weeks?…months?…when we feel as if everything and everyone is on top of us.
Learning to relax is an essential skill because our natural responses to stress are often more harmful than the stress itself. When things are not going as planned and we begin to feel the worry building up we have a propensity to react excessively to some of the most trivial situations. Think about the times you have endured stress just by thinking about something that might happen.
People who live busy lives find themselves in a no win situation when it comes to de-stressing throughout the day. On the one hand, they have such busy schedule they just believe they don’t have the time to de-stress. On the other hand, that busy schedule is going some way to creating the stress in the first place and something has to break this cycle. And facts are facts, no matter how little time they have to spare, they have to find the time to deal with their stress. If not they find plenty of time on their hands when they are layed up ill in bed.
Thankfully, it is possible to deal with your stress. You can learn to take small amounts of de-stressing time throughout the day which will allow you to relax without invading on your busy schedule. The following eight tips offer you insight into ways to relax in less than ten minutes at a time.
Relaxation is a key component of Personal Development, so read these, and determine which one you are going to adopt straight away!
1. Listen to classical music
Music can act as a great relaxation technique. It can have a very effective calming influence on your over worked, stressed out mind. Music can help you by calming you down, giving your mind the opportunity to relax if only for a mere ten minutes. Scientific studies have shown that the brain can be calmed by listening to classical music, and that it can cause your breathing and heart rate to slow down. So turn on the music, shut your eyes and take some deep breaths. Focus on the sound and push any thoughts away from your mind. Let yourself just get lost in the sound, and relax.
2. Deep breathing exercises.
Deep breathing is one of the fastest ways to get yourself to relax and calm down. There are many different types of deep breathing exercises all of which can help you reach a relaxed state really quickly. Find a quiet place to sit down. Shut your eyes and take deep breaths, in and out. Then take a very slow slowly, counting to five, hold that breath to the count of four, then release it very slowly. Keep repeating this. Doing this breathing technique for ten minutes will be very calming.
3. Enjoy a brisk ten minute walk.
Getting yourself out into the fresh air and getting your body moving are both great ways to clear your head and relax. A nice fast walk gets the blood flowing and your lungs working properly. This will have the added benefit by enabling your mind to focus better and it will reduce the immediate impact that stress has been having on you. It means you are getting away, even for a short time, from your normal environment. This is particularly relevant for us bloggers.
4. Immerse yourself in a scent that you love.
The calming aromas of essential oils for relaxation can cause instant relaxation and have a powerful effect on the mind and body. We can drastically change our moods with the right scents. Learn a little bit about aromatherapy and figure out how to take a few minutes out of each day to bring yourself back to a calmer place using the right aromatherapy oils. When you talk about relaxation, aromatherapy plays an important part in achieving that state. Relaxation depends on good breathing techniques so the best way to do this with disperse the essential oils in the air and inhale it. This can be achieved by burn an aromatherapy candle, or just put some essential oils blends in the diffuser. To make you more relax you can play some music and do the breathing exercise.
5. Take 10 minutes for Meditation
Meditation is one way to bring about a sense of calmness, quietness and peaceful relaxation. Meditation allows the mind to settle down and really experience an inner state of calmness. The more you use meditation to help yourself relax the easier it becomes to bring yourself to that peaceful state of mind. Using meditation on a daily basis will help you to focus more on the positives in life, you will notice an increase in your creativity and you will find joy in the small things in life.
6. Alternatively Visualize for 10 minutes
The use of visualization is another powerful tool that you may use to rid yourself of stress and bring about true relaxation. To effectively use visualization you should find yourself a place where you can be alone with no noise around you. Close your eyes and try to quite your mind then vividly imagine that you are in the most peaceful place you can think of, picture that place in your mind. Completely immerse yourself in the picture as though you are really there experiencing the whole event involve all your senses, feel the wind, imagine how it smells, hear all the sounds allow yourself to be a part of the scenery. The practice of visualization is so powerful it can remove you from the stress of real life in a matter of moments. Practice it often as the more you use it the easier it becomes to relax and really get yourself swept up into a beautiful fantasy.
7. Stretch your Body
Slow easy stretching is a wonderful exercise to use to bring you into a state of complete relaxation. When we become stressed our muscles tighten up and get sore leaving you uncomfortable and tense. Slowly stretching the muscles and tendons loosens you up in a couple of ways first it stretches the muscles helping you to feel like your not all tied up in knots and just the act of stretching takes your mind off anything that may have been causing you stress.
8. Put Your Muscles into a state of total relaxation
Muscle relaxation is a very effective technique that involves concentrating on one muscle group at a time. When using this technique you focus on tightening and then relaxing the muscle group. Using this method helps to take your mind off any worries you might have and it allows you to focus on the physical sensation of bringing your muscles to a state of relaxation. You should start tensing and relaxing your muscles in your toes then your feet and progressively work your way up through all the muscles in your body in a methodical pattern. You should tense your muscles for five to ten seconds and then relax for 30 seconds then repeat this process until you reach the top of your head. You will find this exercise to be very relaxing and stress relieving as it frees your mind from the pressures of the day.
Bringing yourself to a state of total relaxation takes practice but the benefits you will receive such as stress relief make it all worthwhile. Whether you have a lot of stress in your life or a little and you believe you have it under control, you can always benefit from the many types of relaxation techniques.
By making concerted and consistent efforts to calm your mind you will cut down on or even eliminate much of the stress that we all face everyday. Learning to use some proven relaxation techniques will have a significant affect on your overall enjoyment of life.
DON’T let the effects of stress make your life miserable and affect your health! Make a positive resolve to adopt relaxation techniques. Every week I will now be creating a section where I provide a relaxation technique, and a full description of how to do it. Read through the different techniques. See what appeals to you. And try them out. Combine one or two and make sure that you look forward to your relaxation time.

Healthy Lifestyle Living

Healthy Lifestyle Living

Through this Healthy Lifestyles Living blog I focus on strategies and techniques for your personal growth and self improvement. This is a place that I’ve developed so you can read, explore, and find excellent personal growth and healthy lifestyle resources. Each article will bring you encouragement, techniques, and tips to enhance your life and yourself.
A commitment to personal development is a commitment to lifelong learning or continuous learning.
Taking control of your life or a particular part of your life where you want to make an impact, and living a healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to be hard. It just takes the motivation to change our bad habits into good, healthy ones, and to keep learning.
In my opinion lifelong learning is a way of life for everyone, where they learn new skills and ideas all of their lives. To me the saying that “You learn something new every day” is so important.
Let’s today look at the benefits of lifelong learning
  • Helps you to develop your natural abilities.
  • Opens your mind bringing a whole new level of enlightenment
  • Creates a curious, hungry mind.
  • Increases your wisdom.
  • Enables you to put back more value into your community.
  • Helps you adapt to change.
  • Assists you in finding meaning in your life.
  • Leads you to making new friends and establishing valuable relationships.
Improving lifestyles is thought to be one of the most effective means of reducing mortality and morbidity in the developed world. However, despite decades of health promotion, there has been no significant difference to lifestyles and instead there are rising levels of inactivity and obesity.
Illnesses associated with a poor lifestyle are becoming ever more prominent and there is increasing recognition that these are having a considerable impact on both an individual’s and the population as a whole’s health.
There are people who strictly deprive themselves of each and every eatable, drinkable, and smokable which has in any way acquired a shady reputation. They pay this price for health. And health is all they get for it. Mark Twain
The term ‘lifestyle diseases’ is now commonly used and implies that not only are there a number of diseases that have in common a behavioural influence in their development, but also that there are behaviours that collectively contribute to a ‘lifestyle’.
The six major lifestyle diseases are coronary heart disease, stroke, lung cancer, colon cancer, diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
The behaviours that are usually cited as being to blame for  lifestyle diseases are poor diet, lack of physical activity, cigarette smoking  and, increasingly, excess drinking
If you are not doing everything you can to improve your overall health you are jeopardizing the quality of your life.
The most valuable and prized possession is our health. Without our health, we wouldn’t be able to achieve the things we want to in our life, go places we want to go and do things we want to do. Over the last few decades, as more and more junk food places have opened and lots of artificially enhanced products created, more and more people have turned to them and forgotten about their bodies. These poor habits along with their living standards have created an increase in illness and lack of peak performance in the body. Due to all of this, we have literally lost control of what goes on in our body and in our health.
Here are ten tips to take back control of your health and get on the path to wellness:
Know your reasons. If you’re looking to get healthier, fitter and look younger, then you’ve got to know your reasons as to why you want to become more healthy. What is your real number one reason for wanting to adopting a healthy lifestyle.
Create your healthy lifestyle plan. So you’ve decided that it’s time to take back control of your health. You need to set a plan for yourself to follow, which you stick to. More on this in the near future.
Get Positive. No longer tell yourself you can’t do this. Don’t say to yourself that you will fail again. See yourself succeeding, totally believe in yourself. Don’t see any other possibility.
Balanced Eating. It’s important that you get all the nutrients your body needs. Getting the right balance between carbohydrates, proteins and fats is important. That’s why we recommended the gi diet, more of which we will talk about later in the week.
Consume lots of water-rich content. Our body is made up of about 70% of water so naturally we should consume enough water to keep our body hydrated and enough to recycle our body’s capacity every so often. Consume lots of water-rich fruits and vegetables every day.
Sleep well. Without sleep, our body’s clock loses its rhythm and starts to dysfunction, causing poor habits. Rest well and consistently each day. Try to keep your timings consistent so your body can set its routine. Try to aim for about 8 hours of sleep a night, but no less than 6..
Exercise at least 30 minutes a day. Exercise gets your body moving, your blood circulating and your energy in motion.
Eat slower. Eat your food slower to aid digestion, as well as heighten your eating experience. Research shows that eating slower can make you more fuller and thus you eat less.
Don’t stuff yourself. Only eat till you are satisfied. Don’t overeat or over-full yourself. You can always go and eat something healthy later – and that’s better than overeating.
Keep a food journal. One of the best ways to ensure you keep healthy and stay on track is to keep a food journal and become really aware what you eat. Write down what you eat and drink at every meal time and in between, as well as what exercises you do and when.
So there you have it – ten ways to take back control of your health and get on the path to wellness. If you’re serious about this, you’ll take on five of the more in one or another in your life.
Getting healthy, becoming fitter and looking more younger is all supposed to be fun, so ensure you keep the fun and excitement in your progress.
Keep an eye on this blog, soon we are going to invite you to take part in something very exciting. Not only will it be totally FREE, but it will provide you with a tremendous resource to get both your lifestyle and personal development in hand

What is a Healthy Lifestyle?

What is a Healthy Lifestyle

I and many others are promoting the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle, but what does that actually mean? In general, most would agree that a healthy person doesn’t smoke, is at a healthy weight, eats a balanced healthy diet, thinks positively, feels relaxed, exercises regularly, has good relationships, and benefits from a good life balance.
Maybe I should start by trying to look at a few definitions for the word – lifestyle. A definition in The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language says : ‘A way of life or style of living that reflects the attitudes and values of a person or group’.
In an Encyclopedia of Public Health: Lifestyle is defined as: In public health, “lifestyle” generally means a pattern of individual practices and personal behavioural choices that are related to elevated or reduced health risk’.
The World Health Organisation in 1946 defined health as ‘A complete state of mental, physical and social well-being not merely the absence of disease’.
Wikipedia: defines a lifestyle as the way a person lives. This includes patterns of social relations, consumption, entertainment, and dress. A lifestyle typically also reflects an individual’s attitudes, values or worldview. A healthy lifestyle is generally characterized as a “balanced life” in which one makes “wise choices”.
A final definition of lifestyle is: The aggregation of decisions by individuals which affect their health, and over which they more or less have control. …
What is the definition of Healthy Living?
The World Health Organization (WHO), defines Health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, not simply just the absence of disease.
The actual definition of Healthy Living is the steps, actions and strategies one puts in place to achieve optimum health.
Healthy Living is about taking responsibility for your decisions and making smart health choices for today and for the future. So healthy living would consist of:
Physical (For the body):
• Good nutrition, eating right
• Getting physically fit, beneficial exercise,
• Adequate rest
• Proper stress management.

Emotional Wellness (For the mind):
• Self-supportive attitudes,
• Positive thoughts and viewpoints
• Positive self-image.

You also need to give and receive:
• Forgiveness,
• Love and compassion;
• You need to laugh and experience happiness;
• You need joyful relationships with yourself and others.

Spiritual Wellness:
• Inner calmness,
• Openness to your creativity,
• Trust in your inner knowing.
And all aspects of one’s self, must work in harmony to achieve wellness, so you need to create a balanced life.
Why is it important?
A healthy lifestyle is a valuable resource for reducing the incidence and impact of health problems, for recovery, for coping with life stressors, and for improving quality of life. There is a growing body of scientific evidence that shows our lifestyles play a huge part in how healthy we are. From what we eat and drink, to how much exercise we take, and whether we smoke or take drugs, all will affect our health, not only in terms of life expectancy, but how long we can expect to live without experiencing chronic disease.
Conditions such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, joint disease, and mental illness are responsible for a vast number of deaths and disabilities. Currently, we rely almost exclusively on the provision of clinical care by highly trained health professionals as our major strategy to deal with these conditions Many health problems can be prevented or at least their occurrence postponed by having a healthy lifestyle.
Why don’t you have a healthy lifestyle?
It’s a busy life for most of us. And keeping ourselves healthy is all too rarely near the top of our list of ‘things to do’. Convenience often wins – we are all so busy that convenience is at a premium.
Good Health is ’simple – but it’s not easy’.
It is so important to make ‘keeping healthy’ a part of our day-to-day living habits. Your health depends on what you do throughout the day, everyday. A healthy lifestyle is absolutely vital. Here is a real simple solution – slowly improve your lifestyle in a step-by-step way. If you take one new health step every two months, for example, in two to three years you will be among the healthiest ten percent of people in the Western world. And boy will you see and feel the benefits.
Improvements do not have to be large steps; take one small step for your health today, keep that one going, and add another one every two months. Have a plan – maybe introduce 6 improvements over the course of a year.
Can you adopt a healthy lifestyle?
Whatever your age, fitness level or body shape, its never too soon or too late to start thinking about living healthily. You can take a step towards healthy living by making one change now to your daily life. That won’t be so hard will it?
Are you living a healthy lifestyle?
Do you wake up with enthusiasm for the day ahead? Do you have the high energy you need to do what you want? Do you laugh easily and often, especially at yourself? Do you confidently find solutions for the challenges in your life? Do you feel valued and appreciated? Do you appreciate others and let them know it? Do you have a circle of warm, caring friends? Do the choices you make every day get you what you want?
The Components Of A Healthy Lifestyle
Eating Healthily – the right nutrition is necessary to live a healthy lifestyle. Your body requires a well balanced diet every day in order to maintain the adequate amounts of vitamins, nutrients and minerals needed to maintain a healthy body.
To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art. La Rochefoucauld
An Active Lifestyle – you will need to include fitness as part of your life. Physical fitness keeps your weight in check, helps you sleep better at night, prevents heart attacks and strokes and other health problems, and generally prolongs your life. Basically there are so many benefits of exercising that you really can’t live a full life without it.
Those who think they have not time for bodily exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness. Edward Stanley
Stress Management – Emotional stress plays an important role in many illnesses, both directly and indirectly. People are also more likely to smoke, overeat, drink too much, work too hard, argue with others and so on, when they are feeling stressed. Thus, stress management is an important part of your new lifestyle, and meditation and relaxation techniques are truly a key part of living a healthy lifestyle.
Diseases of the soul are more dangerous and more numerous than those of the body. Cicero
Make Friends With Yourself – Loving yourself is a key to a healthy, happy lifestyle. Self-esteem is all about how much people value themselves; the pride they feel in themselves, and how worthwhile they feel. Self-esteem is important because feeling good about yourself can affect how you act.
The power of love to change bodies is legendary, built into folklore, common sense, and everyday experience. Love moves the flesh, it pushes matter around…. Throughout history, “tender loving care” has uniformly been recognized as a valuable element in healing. Larry Dossey
Powering Up Your Mind And Body – programme your mind for total success. Develop a vision, a compelling future that excites and inspires you, and focus on it daily. Don’t let anything knock you of course, or make you question its possibility. I promise you, by taking control of your thoughts, you will improve your life in a big way.
In minds crammed with thoughts, organs clogged with toxins, and bodies stiffened with neglect, there is just no space for anything else. Alison Rose Levy
Life Balance – If you want to achieve a healthy lifestyle you must take steps to ensure you maintain a certain level of balance… spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially, mentally and financially. You need to balance work and family, and all the other areas of your life without spreading yourself too thin and having a guilt trip when you do one thing, but think you should be doing another. All of the key areas of our lives overlap and interlink, effecting each other. Unless we create for ourselves satisfaction in each and every part of our life, we can never truly be fulfilled, or live a contented, happy and healthy life.
“No success in public life can compensate for failure in the home.” —Benjamin Disraeli
Being Healthy is so important. Just change one thing in your life today. Have a healthy life beginning now. Living a healthy lifestyle will bring you happiness, health and the life of your dreams. You can fit into your favourite pair of jeans again. You can enjoy all the benefits that perfect health offers you. You can feel your best at all times of the day.
I have spent over ten years working in the area of personal development and in helping others to achieve their potential. LOW-CARB DIET FOR ANEMICS

Low-Carb Diet for Anemics

If you have been diagnosed with anemia, your physician may have suggested that you increase your iron intake on top of taking iron supplements. If you're overweight or have diabetes, and you choose to lose weight or control your blood glucose by going on a low-carb diet, this won't worsen your anemia. In fact, some low-carb diets are iron-rich, while still remaining low in starchy foods.

Anemia

Anemia derives from a reduced amount of red blood cells in your body or when there isn’t enough hemoglobin in the red blood cells. Hemoglobin is a protein that contains iron that is used to turn blood red. Hemoglobin is responsible for carrying oxygen from the red blood cells through the lungs and to the rest of the body. A lack of oxygen rich blood causes you to feel fatigued or short of breath. Anemia is caused by poor diet, blood loss, lack of red blood cell production and red blood cell destruction. Left untreated, anemia can become life-threatening. Some forms of anemia can be prevented by using iron supplements and eating iron-rich foods.

Low-Carb Diet Benefits

If you're anemic and overweight, you may have chosen to go on a low-carb diet to shed some pounds. Low-carb diets are also good for controlling blood glucose levels and reducing symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome, according to the Glycemic Index website. It's important to remember that, while reducing the amount of carbohydrates you consume, you eat plenty of iron-rich meat, vegetables and grain. Most mainstream low-carb diets, including the glycemic index diet, are safe for you to follow if you're anemic. However, beware of low-cab diets that also restrict meat or vegetable intake.

Diet Structure

Low-carb diets still promote the consumption of certain grains, vegetables, fruit, dairy and protein, which will still provide you with all of the essential nutrients needed for good health. According to the Mayo Clinic website, low-carb diets minimize the amount of carbohydrates that you can eat, mainly from starchy vegetable and fruit sources, while focusing on increasing dietary protein intake and fat. However, there are several low-carb diets that exist and each has different restrictions on carbohydrate intake and what type of carbohydrate sources that you can eat from. If you have anemia, you may want to steer clear of low-carb diets that emphasize restrictions on fruit and vegetables that are high in vitamin C such as citrus fruits, tomatoes, mangos, spinach, broccoli and melons. Vitamin C increase iron uptake, so if you're getting your iron solely from food and no supplements, you’ll need to increase your vitamin C intake to support greater iron absorption.

Considerations

Increasing meat intake is particularly helpful if you're at risk of becoming iron deficient or if you already are. Red meat, in particular, contains a higher concentration of iron than fish or grain. However, if you have high cholesterol or if you're at a high risk for developing heart disease or high cholesterol, choose a low-carb diet that restricts the intake of both saturated and trans fats. Eating an increased amount of these fats can increase low-density lipoprotein “bad cholesterol” levels and decrease good cholesterol levels. Although it's safe to increase the consumption of iron-containing foods, don't increase the dosage of iron supplements unless directed by your physician. This can cause iron poisoning, which in some cases is fatal.
